While praying a few days ago, I heard the Lord speak about 2010, “It’s a Psalm 91 year.”
Psalm 91:1 immediately came to mind: “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
I felt the Lord further impressing me that if we will meditate on Psalm 91, its truths will be sustaining for us and will provide protection for us. God wants His people to possess this psalm in our hearts and appropriate its promises for our provision in the days ahead.
Receiving the blessing, provision, and protection in Psalm 91 is conditional on several key words in the first verse — dwelling in the secret place and abiding under His shadow. It is about putting Him first and dedicating special time to be alone with Him, to listen to Him and to act upon what He speaks.
Over the past few months, I have been consistently hearing that God wants to do a work of dependence on Him within His people. At this time in history, when there is a thrust to remove “In God We Trust” from our currency, God wants to restore to His children “In God We Trust” as a deep reality of the heart. In the process, greater understanding of what true faith is will be required. Abiding in Him, keeping close to His heart, and putting the truths of His Word, such as are found in Psalm 91, deep inside us, are the keys to having the kind of trust that will fearlessly depend upon Him.
Everything we need to live the victorious Christian life is found through abiding in the secret place of deep intimacy with the Lord. 2 Peter 1:3 assures us, “… His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who has called us to glory and virtue.” John 15:7 promises, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done for you.”
I will be pondering Psalm 91 in days and weeks to come, getting it firmly planted in my heart and decreeing it over my life and the lives of loved ones, and making it mine. Will you join me?
